Stay in school

Staying on in school could be an option for you.

In England, children are required to be in full-time education until the last Friday in June if they will be 16 by the end of the summer holidays.

Children can stay in full-time education including college, sixth form, or other educational institutions until they are 18.

Stay at the same school if there is a sixth form available:

  • You already know the teachers and staff, and they know you. They can help you prepare for life after school.
  • Continue with some of your current lessons and try new ones.
  • Obtain a qualification to support to your career through A-levels or courses from Level 2
  • Participate in visits or work tasters to explore future possibilities.

Move to another school's sixth form or college:

  • Talk to your parents/carers and teachers to see if moving to another school is possible and what steps are needed.
  • You can compare the performance of schools and colleges in the UK using the government website here
