At 36, Chris Morris knew something had to give. He had hit one of the lowest points in life—but what came next surprised even him. Within weeks, he found himself preparing for a job interview, building his confidence, and rediscovering a sense of purpose that had once felt far out of reach.

Chris found himself facing one of life’s toughest challenges: homelessness. Recently rehomed and determined to rebuild his life, he wanted to give back to the services that had supported him. Chris discovered Futures were partnered with one of the organisation that helped him, Framework. This took the form of a short course followed by a guaranteed job interview with them which sounded like the perfect route in. But despite this passion, Chris felt uncertain and overwhelmed at the thought of joining a course.
“I was so apprehensive… I genuinely felt overwhelmed and like I wanted to just get up and leave during the induction day—thankfully, I didn’t!”
With low self-esteem and a lack of direction, Chris was looking for more than just a job—he needed confidence, structure, and support.
Chris enrolled in Futures’ Health and Social Care course, which included employability training and a mock interview.
Futures tutor Simon Treece played a key role in Chris’s development, alongside the supportive learning environment created by his fellow course participants.
This welcoming and inclusive atmosphere helped Chris move beyond his initial doubts and fully engage with the course material and training.
“I can honestly say it literally made all the difference. The tutor Simon and the rest of the group really helped boost my confidence and belief in myself!”
After completing the course, Chris was interviewed for a support worker position at Framework—and he got the job!
“I was offered the job!! I’m currently waiting for my start date but I’m very excited to start doing some good!”
More than just employment, Chris gained a renewed sense of confidence and purpose. He now looks forward to making a positive impact in the lives of others, just as others once did for him.
