Futures Health & Employment Summit Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

29th August, 2025

Reading time: Two minutes

Futures welcomed key regional stakeholders to its Mansfield Centre for a pivotal Strategic Health & Employment event back in July, bringing together leaders from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and Public Health and Economic Development teams from Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire councils.

The event focused on tackling the pressing challenges of health-related economic inactivity and unemployment across the region. Attendees explored how cross-sector collaboration can shape strategic priorities to address these issues effectively.

A central theme of the discussion was the cultural and structural differences between the Health and Employment sectors. Delegates examined how integrated models could bridge these divides, with particular attention given to EMCCA-led initiatives such as the Connect to Work programme and the local Get Britain Working Strategy.

Futures also unveiled its pilot project for Connect to Work in Mansfield, delivered in partnership with the Rosewood Primary Care Network and Nottinghamshire ICB. This innovative pilot integrates Careers Advisers from Futures with social prescribers from the PCN to form an Employment & Skills “Triage” Service. The service offers impartial guidance, a structured pathway to employment, and a deep understanding of the local labour market.
In collaboration with Working Well East Midlands IPSPC (delivered by Standguide), West Notts College, Nottingham Trent University, DWP, and Futures’ own in-house programmes, the pilot ensures a “no wrong door” approach. Patients referred through community health settings can access a wide range of employment and skills support, ultimately improving both job prospects and health outcomes.

This event brought together experts and stakeholders from various fields to discuss and address critical issues. The collaborative efforts and insightful discussions have paved the way for innovative solutions and strategies that will undoubtedly benefit the community. As we move forward, it’s essential to continue developing such partnerships and dialogues to ensure sustained progress and positive outcomes for all. We look forward to seeing the tangible impacts of these efforts in the near future.
