22nd October, 2025

Reading time: Two minutes

Futures is proud to be delivering the Youth Guarantee Programme in partnership with Derby City Council – supporting 16–24-year-olds in Derby who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), particularly those with SEND.

With 32% of children in Derby living in absolute low-income households and NEET rates in some areas above the national average, the need for targeted support is clear. This free programme offers one-to-one guidance to help young people take confident steps toward training, education, or employment.

What We Offer

Our experienced advisers, Paul and Zakia, are working directly with young people to provide:

Personalised Careers Guidance

Support with Next Steps
Help with exploring and applying for the right jobs, training, apprenticeships, internships, or education pathways.

Confidence Building
Support to build self-belief, discover personal strengths, and shine in interviews and workplace settings.

Friendly, Understanding Careers Advisers
We take the time to listen, understand each person’s unique journey, and build trust to find the right way forward.

Why It Matters

At Futures, we believe every young person deserves the chance to fulfil their potential. The Youth Guarantee Programme is focused on unlocking that potential by delivering the right support, at the right time, for the right person.

The local picture – Derby City

  • Children living in low‑income families: 32 %
  • For the year ending December 2024, among residents aged 16+ in Derby: employment rate 79.8 %
  • The NEET percentage for 16‑18 year‑olds in Derby was reported at 6.8 %, with higher concentrations in more deprived areas.

Together, these data indicate that while many young people are engaged in education, employment or training, a substantial minority in Derby face economic disadvantage and risk of exclusion. By delivering this programme locally we aim to make a real difference, enabling young people to gain meaningful qualifications, access jobs or apprenticeships, move into training and thereby reduce the risk of long‑term disengagement or disadvantage.
