Pathway 1 - Customer Service and Retail

This free, 4-week course is perfect for anyone looking to start a career in Customer Service and Retail.

If you're just starting out in a customer-facing career, this training course will give you the perfect foundation to enter the Customer Service sector with confidence. It has been designed to fully prepare you for retail roles.

On this pathway, you'll receive:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Customer Service
  • Level 1 Certificate in Occupational Studies in the Workplace (Retail) 

Pathway 2 - Customer Service and the Visitor Economy

This free, 4-week course is perfect for anyone interested working in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

It covers information about all of the different businesses that support the Visitor Economy - from hotels to tourist attractions to restaurants and more. 

On this pathway, you'll achieve three Level 1 qualitifcations:

  • Certificate in Introduction to Customer Service
  • Certificate in Occupational Studies in the Workplace (including UK destinations)
  • Award in Volunteering

Meet Your Tutor: Caroline

I’ve been part of the Futures team for eight years and have been teaching Employability, Business Admin and Digital Skills for around ten years overall. What I love most about being a tutor is supporting people on their journey to a fresh start, helping them build confidence and prepare for new opportunities.

My teaching style is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of laughter and real-life relevance, so learning feels engaging rather than a chore. In the classroom, what matters most to me is creating an inclusive, supportive space where everyone feels seen, heard, and confident to grow.

And a fun fact about me? When I’m not teaching, I’m either enjoying time in the sun, laughing with friends, or working on renovating my “little palace” with my two rescue dogs by my side.

Who Can Join Our Training?

If you live in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Leicester, Leicestershire, Derby, or Derbyshire, you can take part in our face-to-face training only.

To take part, you must be:

  • Age: you must be aged 19 or older on 31 August of the academic year in which your course starts (e.g. 31 August 2025 for the 2025/26 year).
  • Either claiming unemployment benefits or earning under £25,750 per year.
  • Additional rules may apply if you're an asylum seeker or on a student visa.
