From customer service to complete career change

After facing redundancy and uncertainty, Chloe turned to Futures for support. With guidance, training, and a boost in confidence, she transitioned from customer service roles into a fulfilling position as an Early Years Educator.

This case study explores how Futures helped Chloe rediscover her strengths and build a new career path.

The challenge

After being made redundant from her role at Claire’s Accessories, Chloe found herself on Universal Credit and unsure of her next steps. With limited experience outside of customer service and a lack of confidence in her qualifications, she was uncertain about how to move forward in her career. She had an interest in working with children but didn’t know how to translate that into a viable job opportunity, having not worked in that industry before.

The approach

Chloe was referred to Futures by her Universal Credit advisor. She enrolled in a 15-week online Level 2 Business Administration course, supported by a dedicated tutor. Simultaneously, she attended a Futures Job Fair where she explored various career paths and connected with potential employers, including YMCA. She also received support from the National Careers Service, which helped her refine her CV and prepare for interviews.

The combination of training and careers advice gave her both the skills and the confidence to pursue the new direction she was dreaming of.

I was on Universal Credit after being made redundant from my last job and they said - if you go to Futures, they'll help you. Through Futures I joined the Business Administration course, I got help with me CV, and I attended the Jobs Fair that helped me get the job I have now. They're helped to pull me out of my shell and be more confident.

The result

Chloe is now working as an Early Years Educator at YMCA Nursery - a role that is perfectly suited to her passion for working with children. She’s currently employed on a casual basis but is working full-time hours and aiming for a permanent contract. The support from Futures not only helped her secure employment but also boosted her self-confidence and gave her a clearer sense of direction. She now feels empowered to continue progressing in her career and is grateful for the practical and emotional support she received.

Chloe’s journey highlights the power of combining training and career support. While the business administration course gave her practical skills and a qualification to enhance her CV, the careers guidance helped her identify transferable skills, build confidence, and connect with real job opportunities. This dual approach enabled her to transition smoothly into a new sector and feel optimistic about her future.
