As a result of her additional needs, E had always struggled at school. She felt forgotten in the school environment, and it got to the point where she was no longer able to attend.
Her mum knew that there were steps she could take to make sure that her daughter's needs were being met and that she was being properly supported - but she needed advice and what that support should look like and what the steps she needed to take should be.
E's mum contacted AskUs Nottinghamshire and was put in touch with Jill. Together, they put together a picture of what E's main challenges were both at school and at home, and then began exploring the EHCN assessment application process.
Jill helped E's family to fully understand the documents and evidence she would need to collect to support with her application, including reports, letters, diagnosis documents, and evidence of engagement with professionals.
With the documents and the information shared about E's needs, Jill was able to support the family by compiling a full EHCNA application form. E was successful in receiving her EHCP, and is now happily back in education and receiving all the support she needs in college.
Without Jill's support with the paperwork, I would have really struggled to complete this on my own. This service is a great support for us parents that are battling the system on a daily basis. It's a relief to know that when you call this service, you're going to speak with someone that knows the requirements and the policies, and will be supportive toward you.
Being a SEN parent can be very lonely sometimes, and so the support is gratefully received. Without it, I don't think E would have ever gone back into education.
