J was a stay-at-home mum to a two-year-old with additional needs when she realised it was time to return to work. Living on just one salary had become unsustainable for the families needs, but due to a change in location and circumstances, she wasn't able to return to the job she had before becoming a mum.
I needed a career change but I didn't know what I wanted or what I could do, and I didn't have the time to look because I was caring for my son full-time. I was feeling very clueless.
J met Michaella at a local community food club and was introduced to Futures and the careers support on offer. She wasn't in a postion to pay for support or take time out of her day to attend in-person sessions due to looking after her son, and she she had no idea about the help which was available to her.
Michaella was able to arrange free home visits with J to make sure the help was accessible, and J's journey began. Together, they discussed her situation and her goals, and J was given honest and practical advice that allowed her to be realistic about her future.
With Michaella's support, J was able to figure out what her work goals were and find a clear direction that she was enthusiastic about exploring.
Michaella made sure to take into consideration J's restrictions about logistics and childcare, and helped J to craft a personalised plan that met her family, financial, and emotional needs.
I felt like I was talking to an old friend - Michaella made the conversation so easy. I'd spent months and months wracking my brains and trying to think about what I wanted to do as a job, and after less than an hour with Michaella I had a clear path to follow.
Even with a path and more focused career ideas in mind, J found that she was struggling to find the time to sit down and look for jobs that suited her needs. Michaella stepped in to provide further support, sending direct links to specific job adverts that J might be interested in, making sure they were a good match for her interests, skills and circumstances.
I was shocked by how much she'd understood what I was looking for - and this gave me the push to start applying.
Michaella helped J to completely revamp her CV for the new types of role she was applying for, which gave J the confidence she needed to submit her applications. It didn't take long for her to be offered a job. While it might not be her dream job, it's a great fit for her current needs - and thanks to the guidance she's recieved, she has a much clearrer idea of what her dream job might be and what steps she needs to take to achieve it when the time is right.
When I emailed Michaella for advice, she phoned me within minutes. Chatting with her laid a lot of my fears to rest. The advice I've had hasn't just helped me find a job in the short time, it will also help me find my dream career in the long term. There is no question in my mind that I'd still be unemployed and feeling clueless if Michaella hadn't helped me.
The support J recieved has helped to transform her families life - they've been given financial security and have been able to enrol their son into a nursery where he is thriving and improving. Without a second income, J wouldn't have been able to afford the costs.
I will forever be grateful for the incredible support I've received - I had no idea how support Michaella would turn out to be. She really considered all of my personal needs and seemed to just get me. Ultimately, she didn't only help me get a job - she's given me ambition for the future.
