When Faye first contacted the Futures IASS team for support with her daughter Holly, she was in need of expert advice and guidance. There had been issues with Holly's EHCP and it had been over a year since they requested a reassessment and heard nothing back from any of the professional services they went to for support.
As a result, Holly's situation had gotten worse and worse - her additional needs made it difficult for her to deal with transitions, and the introduction of a new transport team to take her to and from school did not go smoothly. By the time a new transport team were available, Holly had reached a stage where she refused to leave her room.
Faye looked everywhere for support and tried to connect with Holly's school to find a solution. It was agreed that the local authority would have to get involved and for a solution to be found together.
From here, Faye reached out for specialist support:
"I called AskUs because I was feeling desperate and utterly lost. I didn't know where to turn or what to do for the best - I just knew Holly needed help.
Noreen was brilliant - her confident and caring nature was a tonic and I immediately felt listen to. She listened properly and then responded clearly, and I was instantly calmer. She was able to convey they information I needed while keeping me calm, and by the end of our first phone call I was back on my feet and had the clarity and direction to know what I had to do next.
Noreen kept in touch, which I was so grateful for. She explained to me that responsibility of the school and how reviews and meetings should be coordinated. She was the voice of reason and wisdom who helped me understand what was happening when the agencies weren't doing what they were supposed to.
When it came time for Holly's EHCP review, I was getting quite worried, but Noreen agreed to attend the meeting with me online. Throughout the meeting she gave additions and comments that helped us get the best out of it and ultimately benefit Holly.
Having Noreen there made all the difference - I'd been nervous to begin with but with her reassurance, my confidence grew and I was able to articulate my points well. Her being there gave me such a boost and made my anxiety disappear.
She's supported me in so many ways - she's been honest and transparent and never made promises she couldn't keep. She's always been upfront and realistic and managed my expectations well so there were no bad surprises. She's been reliable, and given me the right information in the right order. She made it so that I didn't feel alone.
I am eternally grateful for all that Noreen and the service has done for myself and my daughter. It's been an incredibly lonely and overwhelming 15 months and she has played an enormous part in Holly and I getting through it.
This experience has been quite the learning curve - it was the biggest and final battle and Noreen's presence and support turned it around for me. Her encouragement, guidance and reassurance was like a glue that kept me together."
